This year I’m learning to lean into the darkness. It’s a natural part of the rhythms of our world and beckons us to the mysterious. Heading into Winter Solstice brings many blessings. It’s a time to sleep more, dream deeply, and nourish ourselves with soups and root vegetables.
I love the convenience of technology but electronic devices and even electric lighting make it hard for us to experience the darkness. The other night I closed the curtains, turned off the lights, and put my phone away.
In the darkness, I lit candles. It immediately created a different atmosphere! I love it and will be embracing the darkness more and more. I felt calmer and more meditative. I sang songs, prayed, and visualized things I’d like to welcome in my life. The whole experience felt magical. The darkness is part of what we need this time of year. Try it for yourself. Even an hour or two can make a big difference.
