Legacy

We live in a Purpose-filled world and by living our Purpose have an impact on future generations. One thing I love of about end of life doula care is taking the time to consciously consider what one wishes to create as a legacy for family, friends, community, and possibly more.

Legacy projects help people express the meaning of their lives, provide a way to cherish the past, and offer inspiration for the future.

Legacy projects are by their nature tailored to the person they honor and can take the form best suited to that individual. Ideas for projects include photo or video compilations, life scroll, personal history (written, oral, or video), songs, poetry, artwork, website, recipes, quilts, etc.

Legacies can focus on what one has learned, experienced, done, or collected. One can start exploring themes such as what have you learned in your life? Which times were the most joyful and which the most challenging? What decisions set the course for your life? Who are the people who made/make a difference in your life?

End of life doulas are flexible and can work with the person approaching death, their loved ones, or some combination. Legacy work is deeply meaningful, fun, and beautiful and provides one avenue for ongoing connection with the beloved person’s life.
